The 2007 racing season saw the Herring Gas Cycling Team celebrate its 20th year as a partnership between the cycling team and the Herring Gas Company. As far as we know, Herring Gas is the longest running title sponsor of any team in America. Since 1987, the Herring Gas Team has been a strong force in Gulf South racing and across the U.S. As a team, we are very proud of and honored by the relationship we have with the Herring Gas Company, Ed and Barbara Herring and the entire Herring Gas family. Going forward, we intend to continue setting the standard for professionalism and success in cycling.

The Herring Gas Team... the most successful Elite Bicycle Racing team in the Gulf South and probably far beyond, wins due to a simple formula: Teamwork. No other team in the region has more success, more state championships, more team honors and more victories than the Herring Gas Team. The Herring Gas Team has riders that qualified for multiple Olympic Trials (96 & 00), countless national championship events and national team selections as well as a podium finish in the 2005 Tour of French Guyana. Several members have extensive experience and success in the European Elite circuit as well as the U.S. Pro/AM arena. Also, some members have trained and lived at the Olympic Training Center in CO as well as competed and received spots on the U.S. National Team. With a roster of only around 10 members, we are quite proud of our résumé.

The "teamwork" formula applies to every facet of this group of Elite and Category 2 riders. From member selection to choosing the color of our uniform, team cohesion and agreement is job 1. Our first and foremost priority is assembling a group of athletes from throughout the region as a team that can compliment the attributes of the other riders, as well as bringing strength and friendship to the table. We pick and choose our members very carefully. We don't just choose the best riders, there would be no one to compete against. We choose the "best fit". A rider that has high moral character, can control himself in dangerous situations and someone that is in control of his emotions and behavior.... and one that can win races! We have a strict code of conduct, not to mention the expectation that each rider give his all for the team and respectfully represent our sponsors in the spotlight. The Herring Gas Team is run like a business, striving to give the best representation and exposure for our sponsors' logos as possible. And we have fun doing it!

Herring Gas Team riders are all young professionals with full time jobs ranging from sales to computer technology to law enforcement. Our training is very important to us, but we keep it in perspective. Most of all, what honestly holds us together and helps us succeed is that we are friends. We live hours apart, but we keep in close contact and genuinely care about each other. This is our biggest prerequisite for being asked to ride for The Herring Gas/Walls New Media Team: Can we be friends? Teamwork! Too many people underrate it. The Herring Gas/Walls New Media Team thrives on it.
